Goals for 2008

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Since this is the first day of a shiny new year, I think I will publicly post my goals. Here we go:

  1. Complete 6 grad school classes (and maintain my 4.0 GPA!)
  2. Be available to help Brianna transition to Grad school (as much as she wants me to be there anyways)
  3. Try and find tools that Kenny will actually use to get organized so he does better in school.
  4. Get the Metro-West AANE support group for parents of teens with Asperger’s  off the ground
  5. Get the FSU Native Alumni association off the ground
  6. Get up-to-speed on SMARTS
  7. Make it to the gym 3 days a week
  8. Get to my next goal weight by April 1 (this date may change if I have to keep traveling…the overall goal is to maintain my weight while I travel)
  9. Go to one of the seminars that train how to work with people on the spectrum
  10. Write a paper and deliver it at a conference. OK I have no clue how to do that, but I want to, and I figure if I don’t write it down and really try to do it, it will never happen.

I’m going to try and remember to review these goals every three months. That way, I can see where I am with these goals, and set new goals if that is needed. Look for a follow-up post on March 1st.

I’m so sick

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

This really sucks. I am so sick! I can’t breathe too deeply or I start coughing like a crazed woman. And it hurts! So I am taking mucinex, which is bringing up the bad stuff, but I have to cough (and did I already say that hurts?) And I am so achy and tired. I guess I am going to try and get into the doctor tomorrow.

We went to the farm for the last time this year. We bought a box of sweet potatoes, some pumpkins, a big bag of onions, a bushel of apples, and other stuff. It makes me sad, that means everything is going to start looking dead.

And Brian is downstairs prepping the system so we can turn on the heat.

BOO. I am not in the mood for winter.

another week gone

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

I just can’t keep up with blogging daily anymore. This week started a busy season for me….big projects at work, Kenny’s graduation, getting people to and from college…..I think I will be able to breathe in Oct.

I am able to scratch writing my statement of purpose of my list, it’s DONE! Now I just have to do well on the GRE…

I went to a meeting to learn more about some legislative efforts of the Asperger’s Association of New England. They have two interesting bills in State legislature right now. One would start a pilot program at Mass Rehab to provide employment help that is specifically tailored for people with Asperger’s.

I think this is really needed…Bri got a new worker at Mass Rehab, and I am not sure she understands Asperger’s. She told Brianna she wants her to try and work in retail, so she can get used to being around people. Why?? Last year, she had a worker who understood Asperger’s who helped her get an internship at the National Archives. Since Brianna is an anthropology major, who wants to be an archivist, this was perfect.

The other bill is to offer hiring credits to employers who hire people who have been officially diagnosed with Asperger’s. Bri doesn’t like this idea, because she wants to be hired on her own merit. The stubborn southern women is starting to emerge! :) She is registered with the Disabilities Office at her university, and they gave her an academic award and she got mad. She doesn’t want her achievements to be associated with her Asperger’s.

So I need to write letters and try to get appointments to see my state representatives next week.

I am using a different tool to track my diet stuff...calorieking. We got a free subscription from our gym. I lost 4 pounds this week YAY. Although I may have put them back on going out last night with co-workers.

So this weekend I have to clean the house, go shopping, pay my bills, and study. Not too bad I suppose.

The diet

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Well, I am back on track with a gym schedule. I hooked back into traineo…you enter what your exercise, weight and other stats, it spits out charts. A motivating thing.

I am also using fitday.com as an online calorie diary…if I can remember to update it.

So, I am going to try this again…we’ll see how it works.

losing weight

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

we finally joined a gym…the old one just didn’t fit in the commuting schedule so I stopped going. ugghhh now I have so much to make up for! The new gym is on the way home from work….actually it’s around the corner from work…so I can go at lunch to kill stress if need be. They have a basketball court!
So, once I get to my short-term goal I am getting a pedicure. Once I meet my mid-goal I am going to have to go shopping…so no shopping till then. I’ll just have to take things in.

Hopefully I can do it before my birthday.

Planning a diet

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

So, I need to go on a diet. I have been trying to just go to the gym and be careful what I eat, but it’s not working.

The doctor told me to try weight watchers, South Beach diet, or a trainer.

I am going to try South Beach and a trainer.

If I was totally about blogging, I would write about how much I am going to lose, how much I weigh now, but you have to be NUTS if you think I am doing that.

I am reading the book now, and the next BJs trip (we go every three or four weeks) will be to stock up on South Beach friendly food.

I am not starting till after Schemitzun, I WANT FRYBREAD!! I’ll start the Monday after.

And this is what I am allowed to eat for that first two weeks!
