How do you get here?

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

I love looking at the searches that get people here. Lots of people looking for information about Tesla having Asperger’s Syndrome. I am convinced he did. I tell you what, I wish I had learned about him in school. His story is just amazing. If you have to do a report on a scientist, pick Tesla.

My favorite search so far has been “asperger’s bad at guitar hero”. LOL. I think it’s a hand eye coordination thing, which may be seen more in aspies.  I don’t know, Brianna plays pretty well, but she had to practice all alone for a few hours. She kicks everyones butt at Katamari. Don’t know the connection, it’s just her. I don’t have asperger’s and I am SO BAD at guitar hero once you are on medium and there are chords. I have no hand-eye coordination.

Chillin

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

I don’t have anything to do today. I am in between semesters, caught up at work, the house is clean. I could work out in the yard but it’s rainy. The house is clean because we had folks over yesterday, and I am a little anal about that.

So, we went to breakfast at our new regular Sunday place, went to spend our Khol’s dollars, went to the bank, went to Best Buy to make them match the price on the game I bought yesterday, and now I am sitting in bed, screwing around online and watching all the DIY shows I usually have to miss because I am writing a paper.

This feels great!

Labor v. Capital

Friday, April 18th, 2008

“Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if Labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.”

“All that harms labor is treason to America.”

April is Autism “Awareness” month

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Bev over at Asperger Square 8 has had a couple of thought-provoking posts on the topic of what is “awareness“.

I thought I relate an awareness story (it beats writing my paper).

Brianna and I were in ToysRUs, who have a program going on right now with Autism Speaks. So there are posters up all over the store, with puzzle pieces missing. Brianna say this one:

….and gave it a new caption. It was something like “Doh! The puzzle is why can’t you people figure this out? I’m fine - it’s the rest of you that don’t understand!”

Anyways, maybe Brianna will comment and tell me how I got that wrong. :)

New Aspie book

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Bria picked it out. It’s called “Aspergers and Girls“. It’s actually pretty interesting - it would have been nicer to have read it five years ago.

I wonder - are they planning to make one called “Asperger’s and Women”?

There is a good chapter called “The Launch: Negotiating the Transition from High School to the Great Beyond”. It talks alot about how parents have to shift from totally supporting the aspie young woman to being a partner with her. This is a hard, hard thing to learn. Bri and I are getting there.

Brian & I are coming to the mullet festival!!

Albums and Comics

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

We went to get some comics and albums from a nice man we met at the auction today.

Brian has filled out his XMen collection a bit (my words not his):

  • Avengers Annual 10 - First Appearance of Rogue
  • Some of the Dark Phoenix saga
  • First appearance of Elecktra and the Hand (no cover though!)

I just got some cool albums (listening to the Cars right now…)

  • The Company album (original  Bway Cast)
  • Promises Promises cast album
  • a Kid Ory album (new orleans music)
  • A couple of Johnny Cash albums
  • A Sun album with lots of good songs (Honey Don’t, RedHot, You are my Sunshine, Whole lotta shakin…)

But my favorite new albums are:

  •    Puffy Sleeves and other exquisite foolishness (ads from TIME radio)
  • How to communicate your ideas - This one is a howto album, as in howto communicate with your boss.  Of course since it was recorded in 1967, no women on the cover. It’s a great reminder that new technology is just an educational tool, it doesn’t replace the idea that we learn certain ways, comprehend instruction in certain ways, etc. I may rip this one too - it would be funny.

I really need some software to catalog my collection (which is HUGE!!!). Any suggestions?
